Research scoping and planning

Defra user researchers run scoping workshops and create research plans to build a shared understanding of the problem and ensure research meets programme and stakeholder needs before delivery starts.

Research plans are mandatory for all DDTS user researchers.

Research scoping and planning process

  1. Run a research scoping workshop with key stakeholders and colleagues using the research scoping workshop template.
  2. Capture the agreed scope in the research plan template.
  3. Submit the research plan to your lead user researcher (if your delivery group has one) for review or approval.
  4. Share the approved plan with your team to ensure everyone is aligned.
  5. Send the final research plan to Research Operations for archiving.
