Agent-to-Agent (A2A)

Exploring Framework

Agent-to-Agent (A2A) is a framework for letting multiple AI agents communicate and collaborate to complete tasks they could not do on their own.

What data you can use with it

Whatever you build with A2A must follow Defra's data rules. Check Using data with AI for what you can put into each type of tool.

Why we are exploring it

The AI Capability and Enablement team is evaluating A2A. It is not yet a recommendation either way.

Multi-agent patterns are emerging fast. A2A could become a useful way to compose specialist agents, for example one that retrieves data and another that summarises it, rather than building one large agent.

The patterns and trade-offs are still moving quickly, so talk to the team before using it in delivery.
