Your sustainability statement should lay out what actions have been taken, and those that are planned, against these six objectives.

Read the full Defra's Digital Sustainability Strategy.

1. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions as far as possible to contribute towards Defra's net zero target.

2. Reduce wider planetary impacts

Reduce wider planetary impacts such as water consumption, land use change and biodiversity impacts.

3. Put circular practices into action

For example through extending the lifespan of existing equipment or purchasing remanufactured or refurbished hardware.

4. Reduce social risk

Reduce social risk from supply chains that are high risk for social inequality or exploitation.

5. Increase supply chain transparency

Work to increase supply chain transparency.

6. Improve resilience to climate risk

Take an approach to infrastructure and hosting that seeks to ensure that services are as resilient as possible to the risks of climate change (for example, flooding or extreme heat).
